Street Friendly Driver
I bought this Jeep a couple years ago for my son, who is now going off to college and it's not very practical to keep. I've put more than $25k in to completely overhauling it. About the only thing original on this 1979 is the body tub. Here is a fairly comprehensive list of things we've done to update this Jeep, though it's not everything
Gas filler, LED tail lights, steering column and steering wheel, shaker bushings & shims, radiator, 5 offroad tires (35"), 5-point racing seats, exhaust system, genright fenders, complete electrical wiring kit, rear bumper with tire mount, winch system, front bumper, 4 point roll cage, battery, cables, hoses, shock absorbers and springs, shackle reversal kit, power steering box, brake master cylinder, clutch, brakes. I even converted from carbureted engine to full EFI (so the gas mileage improved dramatically). We made it VERY street friendly since I wanted and needed it to be safe for my son to drive, including on the freeway, so it drives without the usual Jeep-sway (accomplished by widening the wheels with some spacers).
It was a lot of work, all performed by a Jeep specialist who works on all the Fast & Furious movies. Getting rid of it is filled with emotion but my son and I both realize it's just not practical to keep it while he's away at college. We hope this Jeep will find a nice home with someone who can appreciate it's offroad fun and easy street driving.
We will take a reasonable offer as it's turnkey and family friendly.
